Texting on the Messaging App

Your Gabb Phone’s Messaging app lets you send text and multimedia messages (photos and videos). It’s a great way to keep in touch when you have something quick to say that doesn’t need a phone call.

Here’s what you’ll learn on this page:

Sending a new message

From the Messaging app’s home screen, tap . You can choose who to send the message to in different ways.

To send a message to someone in your Contacts, tap their name below the To  field. You can switch between the Recents and All Contacts tabs to find the right person.

You can also start typing the person’s name in the To field to find them. To message a phone number not saved in your Contacts, type the number in the To field.

To enter your message, tap the Send message box. Your keyboard will appear. Type your message, and tap send to send it.

Reading and replying to messages

From the app’s main screen, tap a conversation to view it. To reply to a message, tap the Send message box and type your message. Tap send to send it.

Sending a photo or video

Photo and video messaging is a fun, interactive feature available under the Gabb Plus Plan.

To send a photo or video within a conversation, tap add_circle beside the Send message box. Choose the photo you want to attach.

Gabb safety Tips

Ask your parents if you’re allowed to send photos or videos to your friends. Remember, you can’t be sure that a photo you send to a friend will stay with that friend. Any photo you send could be seen by other people.

You should never send photos or videos to someone you don’t know. If someone who’s not family or a friend asks you to send a photo, do not respond. Tell your parents right away if this happens, or if anyone asks you to send a photo that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Forwarding a message

To forward a message to someone else, tap the conversation to open it. Press and hold the message you want to forward, then tap reply at the top of the screen.

Choose the person you want to forward the message to or add a new person by tapping add_circle. If you want, you can edit the message before you send it.

Sending a group message

To add more than one person to a message, add everyone’s name or number to the To field.

Blocking messages from certain people

If you don’t want to receive messages from a specific number, you can block that number in the Messages app. Once that number is blocked, all messages will be archived and you will not receive any further notifications from that number. Tap block, then OK.

You’ll still receive messages from the number, but you won’t be notified anymore. The conversation will be archived and you won’t see future messages.

Gabb safety Tips

If someone is calling or texting you in a way that makes you uncomfortable, tell an adult. They can help you block the person on your phone and decide whether any other actions are needed.

Using emojis

Sometimes, you just need a smiley face to get your point across! You have lots of emoji options in your Messages app. To see all emojis, tap emoji_emotions from your keyboard.

To scroll through emojis, swipe left and right to see the collection. You can also tap the gray tabs at the top of your emoji keyboard to see different categories, like wildlife or sports. Additionally, you can tap the gray clock icon on the far left to see emojis you recently used.

Changing conversation settings

Tap the three dots at the top of any conversation and choose People & options to view the conversation’s settings.

From this menu, you can block the person’s phone number, choose a custom ringtone, and turn the vibrate feature on and off.

By selecting Notifications, you can change the notification settings for the conversation. If you’re trying to finish your homework and you’re getting a lot of texting notifications, you can turn on Do Not Disturb so you can focus on your schoolwork!

Choose Alerting if you want your phone to send a notification for new messages in the conversation.

Choose Silent if you don’t want a notification.
