Gabb GPS Functionality

We get it—kids lose things. Replacing mittens and soccer cleats adds up over time, but when your child misplaces his smartphone, that’s enough to get the whole family out searching. If your kiddo has a tendency to lose things, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s careless. According to child psychologist Cheryl Gilbert MacLeod, it’s normal for young children to lose things because their focus is elsewhere. Developmentally, their goals are very “me-oriented.” As kids experience transitions like starting high school, new organizational demands can also make them more forgetful. And some forgetfulness is simply genetic (if you or your spouse is constantly misplacing the car keys, you’ll know the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree). To fight forgetfulness, we’ve added a Gabb GPS feature—the MyGabb GPS app to all Z2 phones. The GPS feature provides an added layer of safety for kids, giving parents peace of mind while protecting their investment.

What Does the GPS Feature Do?

At Gabb, we’re hyper-focused on child safety. We want our devices to come equipped with everything kids and parents need—and nothing that they don’t. That extends to the MyGabb app.

MyGabb doesn’t provide navigation, it just allows you to locate your child’s device by pairing it with an Apple or Android phone. You can even pair and track multiple Z2 phones so that everyone in the family is covered.

How Does It Work?

We know kids aren’t always the best at retracing their steps to find lost things. This is where GPS can come in handy.

In the parent app, you can view the location of your child’s Z2 device in real-time. You can see whether it was left at the park, at a friend’s house, or anywhere in between. You can also have the Z2 to play a sound in case it’s hiding between the couch cushions or stuffed in a backpack.

How Do I Get the GPS Feature?

On your child’s device, you’ll notice an app called “MyGabb.” Inside the app is a QR code that you can scan with your own device to pair. Simply visit the App Store or Google Play store to download the MyGabb app for iOS or Android. Then, follow the instructions you see on screen.

Is My Child’s Location Data Safe?

Absolutely. Gabb was created by parents, for parents. Unlike third-party apps like Find My Friends, MyGabb doesn’t allow strangers to request your child’s location. Only your paired smartphone can track your child’s device.

To safeguard your child’s location data, be sure your own smartphone is password-protected or enable fingerprint authentication. This way if you lose your smartphone, your child’s location will still be protected.

At Gabb, we’re obsessed with creating kid-safe smartphones that make your life easier and provide peace of mind. The Z2 doesn’t give kids access to the Wild West of the Internet, but it still provides useful features that parents can feel good about.

Unfortunately, there’s still no technological solution to tracking down missing retainers and worksheets, but, with the help of Gabb GPS functionality, you no longer have to worry about replacing your child’s smartphone when he or she forgets it.

GPS is not working on my granddaughter's watch phone and hasn't worked for over 12 hours. Everything else is working fine. The apps are up to date, the battery is charged and the watch is powered on. We can send/receive texts and send receive calls. Just no GPS locating/tracking. 5/13/22

Can my kids see on their device if I'm trying to locate their device?

  • Gabb on Nov 07, 2022 02:23 PM

Hi there! They cannot see that.

  • Karina on Jan 13, 2023 02:52 PM

Does the watch have a map so the child can see the parent’s location? I see a setting to allow sharing my location in the MyGabb app, but maybe that functionality only works with Gabb Phone?

  • Gabb on Jan 17, 2023 05:28 PM

Currently, the watch does not have a map, Karina. Only the parents are able to see where the child is. Thank you for this feedback, we will send it to our product team!
